Sophie Weston is a flautist who performs actively with various ensembles around Melbourne.
In 2016 Sophie attended the 9th Summer Course for Young Flutists in Tuscany with Thies Roorda and Rien de Reede. In the same year she was also selected to attend Emily Beynon's Netherlands Flute Academy as one of twelve Young International Professionals. Sophie performed at the 2015 Australian Flute Festival with the progressive ensemble NOW Flutes presenting a program of entirely living female composers and has played flute and piccolo on three separate tours to China with both the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra and the Australian International Opera Company. She also performed Mahler's Resurrection Symphony in Christchurch, with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra and members of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in 2014.
Sophie completed her Masters of Music at the University of Melbourne, Faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts and Melbourne Conservatorium in 2012 under Derek Jones. Her Bachelor of Music in Performance was guided by Gerhard Mallon at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University.
